Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

World of Warships Captain Builds (the “Site”) is a free, community-maintained fan project about the game World of Warships. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Wargaming.net or any of its subsidiaries. We do not run the game and we never receive, request or store your game account credentials.

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to keep the Site online and funded by advertising. There are no user accounts, no newsletter, no comment system and no login of any kind.

2. What we do not collect

• We do not ask you to register or provide your name or email.
• We do not collect payment details — nothing on the Site is sold.
• We do not knowingly collect information from children (see section 9).
• We do not sell your personal information for money. Note that some privacy laws, including the CCPA/CPRA, treat interest-based advertising as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — section 6 explains how to opt out.

3. What is collected automatically

Server and hosting logs

Like any website, our hosting provider records technical request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer and timestamp — to deliver pages, mitigate abuse and diagnose faults. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to build a profile of you.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which guide sections are read, so we know what to keep updated. GA4 sets cookies and identifiers in your browser and reports aggregated information such as pages viewed, approximate location (country/region level), device and browser type, referring site and session duration. GA4 truncates IP addresses and does not log full IPs.

Google acts as our processor for analytics data. See Google’s Privacy Policy. You can block analytics entirely with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by declining analytics/statistics in our consent banner.

Advertising — NitroPay (Overwolf)

The Site is funded entirely by display advertising served through NitroPay (Overwolf). Our ad partner and the demand partners it works with (including Google and other ad exchanges) may set cookies or read device identifiers in order to serve ads, cap how often you see the same ad, measure performance and detect click fraud. Where you have consented — or where permitted by law in your region — those ads may be personalised based on your browsing.

We do not receive your personal data from these partners. We only see aggregate revenue and impression reporting. For details on what the ad stack collects and how long it retains it, see NitroPay’s privacy notice and the Overwolf privacy policy.

Embedded media

Some pages embed third-party players such as YouTube and Twitch. When an embed loads, that provider can set its own cookies and see your IP address, exactly as if you had visited its website. Their own privacy policies apply to that processing.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

• Strictly necessary — remember your consent choices and your light/dark theme preference. These are stored in your browser and cannot be switched off.
• Analytics / statistics — Google Analytics 4, as described above.
• Advertising — set by NitroPay (Overwolf) and its demand partners for ad delivery, frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention.

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may break the theme toggle and will cause the consent banner to reappear on every visit.

5. Legal bases (EEA / UK visitors)

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — analytics and advertising cookies, collected through our consent management platform. You can withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect processing carried out beforehand.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — serving the pages you request, keeping the Site secure and preventing abuse.

Our partners are international; data may be transferred outside the EEA or UK. Those transfers rely on the safeguards implemented by the relevant provider, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

6. Your choices and rights

Changing your consent

Use the privacy settings and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information links in the footer of every page. They open our ad partner’s consent tool, where you can review each purpose and vendor and change or withdraw your choices at any time.

EEA / UK rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California rights

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (including for cross-context behavioural advertising), and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

Because we do not operate accounts, we usually cannot link a request to a specific visitor. Requests that concern advertising or analytics data are best addressed to the partner that holds it — NitroPay/Overwolf or Google — and we will help where we can. 7. Data retention

Hosting logs are retained only briefly for security and debugging. Analytics data is retained under the retention window configured in GA4. Advertising data is retained by our ad partners under their own schedules. We hold no separate database of visitors.

8. Security

The Site is served over HTTPS and is a static, read-only publication — there is no user-submitted content and no database of personal data to breach. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that threshold) and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided personal data through one of our partners, contact us and we will assist in having it removed.

10. Links to other sites

The guide links to Wargaming’s official site, community Discord servers, source documents and streamer channels. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Wargaming’s own privacy policy governs anything you do on their properties.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site or its partners change. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version; material changes will be signposted on the Site.
