Italian Sub line (Calvi line)
Section 7 of 7
Italian Sub line (Calvi line)
- The Calvi line utilizes a unique surface gunboat playstyle, blapping DDs with rapid fire SAP from the relative safety of exhaust smoke. Her torps are serviceable, but their slow speed hurts when attacking maneuverable targets
- Calvi uses the typical submarine build
- Sansonetti is better used on other Italian ships, Calvi doesnât make efficient use of his talents
- Sub surveillance is strongly recommended as you can get the jump on other subs
- While Calvi can be played like other subs, they have a unique gunboat playstyle that can be used to great effect vs. DDs and other surfaced subs. They can surface gunboat enemy DDs with their SAP and MBRB. If the DD shoots back, use smoke and let your allies spot while you continue to pump damage. Dive to end the smoke early so you can spot again. You can do this vs other lightly armored ships as well like cruisers.
- Be careful when gunboating on the surface. You are 1 Colombo SAP salvo away from dying, and enemies will not hesitate to execute you on the spot
- Your gunboat gimmick works best on stealthy DDs. Gunboat DDs are much harder to take down due to their durability.
- Applies to: Foca, Pietro Micca, Pietro Calvi
